LIMITATIONS ON PUBLIC UTILITY WORKERS'’ RIGHT TO STRIKE
The CLA has finished drafting the proposed amendments to the Labor Union Law. The draft explicitly prohibits strikes by unions in the electric power supply, water supply, gas supply and healthcare sectors. In other public service sectors, such as banking, telecommunications, public transport, public health, oil refining and air traffic control, when no agreement is reached in industrial disputes, employees may only take strike action after a 60-day cooling-off period. The draft was sent to the Legislative Yuan for review in late August.
