REGULATIONS GOVERNING NUTRITION FACTS LABELING FOR PACKAGED FOOD PRODUCTS CONTAINING VITAMINS AND MINERALS IN TABLET AND CAPSULE FORM

The Department of Health (DOH) announced the Regulations Governing the Nutrition Fact Labeling on Packaged Vitamins and Minerals in Tablet or Capsule Form Food Products (the "Regulations") on 29 November 2010, which will be implemented on 30 April 2012. The current nutrition labeling on packaged food products will no longer be applied to packaged food products containing vitamins and minerals in tablet or capsule form after the implementation of the Regulations. The major contents of the Regulations are as follows:
 
l A nutrition facts label for packaged food products containing vitamins and minerals in tablet or capsule form shall be placed at a conspicuous place of the packaging or container with the heading "Nutrition Facts Label", the content of every vitamin and mineral, and other ingredients labeled by the manufacturer voluntarily.
 
l Stipulated the labeling of contents and volume, units and daily value of vitamins, minerals and other ingredients.
 
l The physiological functions of vitamins or minerals in tablet or capsule form food product must not be described unless the minimum daily intake exceeds 15 percent of the daily reference value.
