DESIGNATION OF SPECIAL INDUSTRIES AND PERSONNEL UNDER THE LABOR STANDARDS LAW
In February 1999, the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) designated the motion picture projection and performance industry as a special industry under Paragraph 2, Article 32 of the Labor Standards Law (LSL), thereby exempting that industry from the restrictions on extended work hours stipulated in Paragraph 1 of the same article. The CLA also announced customer service & planning personnel in the advertising industry as personnel referred to in Article 84-1 of the LSL. In the case of such personnel, matters such as work hours, holidays and vacations, and nighttime work by female workers may be decided by a written agreement between the workers and the employer, to be submitted for approval by the local authority-in-charge, whereupon the relevant restrictions of the LSL cease to apply.
