LSL AMENDMENTS PASS FIRST READING
On 13 May 2002 the Sanitation, Environment and Social Welfare Committee of the Legislative Yuan approved draft amendments to the Labor Standards Law. The proposed amendments in-clude: maximum monthly extended working hours for women are to be made the same as for men; restrictions on women's night work will be relaxed, except that pregnant women and nursing mothers will continue to be barred from doing night work; and where an employer wishes to implement flexible working hours or to extend working hours, he must first gain the consent of the labor union, or where there is no labor union, the consent of a labor-management meeting.
