PLANT SEEDING LAW AMENDED

The amendments to the Plant Seeding Law were promulgated by the President on 30 January 2002 and came into effect on 2 February. The main points are as follows:

Legal basis is prescribed for various regula-tions on plant seeding matters, such as Regu-lations Governing Field Trials of Transgenic Plants, Regulations Governing the Exporta-tion for Academic Research Purposes of Seeds of Agricultural and Forestrial Products and Plant Seeds, etc.

Agencies in charge of matters related to phe-notype determination of new plant varieties are designated by law. Under a new provision, such agency may further delegate verification function to subordinate agencies.
