IMPORTER/EXPORTER REGIS-TRATION REGULATIONS AMENDED

Patrick Wong

On 21 June 2001 the MOEA announced amendments to Articles 2-1, 2-2, 3, 3-1, 4 and 4-1 of its Regulations Governing the Registration and Administration of Exporters and Importers. The main points of the amendments are as fol-lows:

  • Application for an English name search or for registration as an exporting/importing com-pany may be submitted on paper or by fax.

  • Importer registration cards will no longer be issued, but exporting and importing compa-nies may, to meet their business needs, apply with the MOEA's Board of Foreign Trade (BOFT) for the issuance of an export-ing/importing company registration certifi-cate.

  • In view of the amendments to the regulations, the BOFT has made all the information formerly recorded on exporter/importer registration cards available on the Internet. Companies and other interested organizations can examine all regis-tered data by accessing the BOFT web site.
