Previously, when a trademark registration cer-tificate was lost, the owner had to first announce the loss in a newspaper, and then apply to the IPO for the issue of a replacement certificate, submitting the newspaper announcement as evidence of the loss. The IPO announced on 1 August 2001 to simplify this procedure, and loss can now be evidenced by the applicant's decla-ration.
