NEW RULES FOR OVERSEAS TRAVEL EXPENSES
On 17 January 2001, the Executive Yuan re-pealed its Rules Governing Expenses for Busi-ness Travel Abroad, and replaced it with a new set of rules. A new schedule for standard daily allowances for central government officials on journeys to various countries also took effect on 19 January 2001.
Under the current Income Tax Law, expenses for food, accommodation and sundry items incurred on business trips abroad by personnel of profit seeking enterprises are tax-deductible up to the daily allowances for civil servants. Thus the changes in the schedule of standard daily al-lowances for central government officials will have significant impact on the amount of ex-penses for overseas business trips which profit-seeking enterprises will be able to declare against their income tax.
